"What Lola Wants"

"As Reported by Dollyforme"

Seventeen year old LOLA FRANKLIN runs away from home but allows the world to believe she has been kidnapped. Intent on making her way across country, she meets a boy (MARLO) her age in a New Mexico diner. They fall instantly in love. But when Marlo learns of the reward for Lola's safe return, he must confront his own past and decide whether to take Lola back home to collect the reward or help her continue her mysterious journey.

Another adorable little indie film from redbox, starring the stunning 26 year old Sophie Lowe – yes so yummy. Any way, What Lola wants is an amazing little indie. With its dark and spirited splendor, the remarkable "What Lola Wants" is the best indie film I have seen this year so far.

A captivating fun flick that leaves no cinematic stone unturned in its desire to fully engulf you in a whirlwind of wacky wonder – one unforgettable trip indeed.

Lola Franklin is a girl who likes to cause trouble. She’s feisty, fun and currently on the run for staging her own kidnapping to get away from her very famous and very overbearing parents. Enter Marlo. A sullen man with a swagger in his step and skeletons in his closet, Marlo has an instant connection and attraction to livewire Lola and the two begin to bond over bad deeds. But finding themselves truly falling in love, being hunted by cops, Lola’s parents and Marlo’s psychotic mom out to kill her baby boy, can their true love last?

Yes, this one sounds a little like "True Romance" meets "Love and a .45" with a little bad mom via "The Grifters" thrown in for good measure. But while "What Lola Wants" does pay a certain amount of homage to like-minded films, it’s never at any time a carbon copy. Standing on its own mighty merits and proving that fun original film is alive and well, "What Lola Wants" takes time to relish in all its ample wares. Writer/Director Rupert Glasson never misses a beat and uses all the tools in his filmmaking arsenal to create the perfect picture.

The dialogue in this film is smart and sassy, his visual style striking and his music choices are mood enhancing. (Not to mention his insane inspired opening title sequence helps set the crazed tone!) Thrown on top of all that, Glasson has carefully and cleverly assembled a killer cast that slams his vision home. As slightly off kilter lovers, Sophie Lowe and Beau Knapp have an undeniable chemistry that goes way beyond the norm. Their cinematic connection rivals the greats that have kept on-screen troubled true romances alive and well. Plus there’s even more memorable movie mojo in the form of Charles S. Dutton as an affable lawman, Robert Taylor as a broken man at the end of his rope and especially the scene stealing work by "My Name is Earl" alum Dale Dickey who nails it as Knapp’s maniacal mom.

But in the end it’s the vision of Glasson that makes "What Lola Wants" exactly what a hungry movie audience wants. Featuring fiery fervor, sizzling sensuality and relatable rants, there’s nothing better than a bold film that isn’t afraid to be one. We may never know what Lola wants, but I know what I want – I want to see it again.

The movie just does not look low budget, the scenery is just stunning for example. All mixed together in a tale of the many sides of love from twisted to true. I recommend you go along for this sweet ride with Lola!

Be warned- Dale Dickey's character will give you nightmares, Robert Taylor is brilliantly unnerving and Charles S Dutton is unpredictable & witty. And these are just a few of the marvelous supporting actors. Sophie Lowe & Beau Knapp (Lola & Marlo) are ablaze as they steer you through this heart searing tangled puzzle - Lola must fight unrelenting obstacles to reclaim what is hers.

Hit the road. Follow your heart. Watch your back. What Lola Wants You Want – really.

Once again, best indie film I've seen in a long time.
