Our Monthly Featured Photographer for August 2017 is GirlsGang:

My interest for the “littlies” (so named by a TDF member) came up when I was searching for a (male) pilot for a RC airplane scale 1:6.3. Using Amazon, I got a lot of results from the Barbie & Ken assortment and some of the cheaper copies. I decided to buy a male and female figure, they have been sitting on a sideboard for some time (the airplane is still not finished.

Short after receiving my first silicone doll (Sanhui 88cm) and browsing several doll sites and forums,

I detected there is a big market for 1/6 action figures (BJD) and dolls and that especially the manufacturer Phicen makes really stunning figures. So I started to buy them and have a small collection now (~ 20).

For scale 1/6, the dolls are 30cm (12”) tall and, given that size, extremely detailed. As a comparison, the heads are the size of an average male thumb.

So I stop babbling now and start with the models:

Anna Valerious:

She is the main actress accompanying Van Helsing in the movie “Van Helsing” (2004).

Her parents have been murdered by Dracula and therefore accepts helping Van Helsing for her personal revenge.

Athena She is a Greek goddess of wisdom, craft, and war, protects the Greek city of Athens. The Athenians constructed the Parthenon atop their Acropolis as a temple to Athena.

Lady Death Lady Death is a fictional goddess appearing in American comic books published by Coffin Comics. Created by Brian Pulido, Lady Death first appeared in Evil Ernie #1 in December 1991. Lady Death then reappeared in the Evil Ernie: The Resurrection miniseries published by Pulido under his now defunct company Chaos! Comics in 1994. The character was also the subject of a full-length animated feature film released in July 2004 by ADV Films. (taken from Wikipedia)

Harley Quinn Harley's first appearance in the cinema was in a Batman movie where she was Harleen Quinzel as a talk-show psychiatrist and was helped by “The Joker” when fired by the TV-Channel. Most recent appearance has been the movie “Suicide Squad” where she fulfilled a dangerous job for getting 10 years release of her jail time. The Joker made his “comeback” in this movie as well, helping Harley again when in trouble.

The “studio” setup I am using a transportable studio background rig with different fabric backgrounds. The background you see in the first 3 sets is a moonshine scene with a river/lake and some trees. I am always working with flashes for indoors, they are remotely triggered and attached to hexagonal soft boxes with 50cm or 60 cm diameter. Usually I use 2 of them one more frontal and one more form the side, the side one with a little less intensity than the front one. A third flash with a snoot (concentrator, 3D printed) is used to highlight the moon and the white fog/clouds.  The distance between the stand for the models and the background is ~ 1.5m, the bigger that distance is the more the background gets blurred in the picture. Flashes approx. 1.5m from model Typical camera setup (manual mode): Shutter 1/200 sec, F5, ISO 100 Front flash 1/8 of max power, side flash 1/16 of max power, moon-flash 1/32 of max power. Camera Nikon D750 (full format), Lens Sigma 24-105 F4, Flashes Yongnuo YN560III. These have remote control built in, so you only need the trigger for the camera (goes into flash socket). No tripod used for the camera.
