Nudity.

It feels wonderful to swim in the Nude - so smooth, nice to sleep Naked - so cosy, and being 'Starkers' in the comfort of ones own home & garden - so cool and liberating. Given how good Nudity feels, not to mention natural, it's a wonder there are not more nudist camps, nudest beaches and even nudest Towns or Suburbs - that would be great (climate and weather permitting). Yet we hide our nudity to an extent that is ridiculous and heaven forbid if someone should see us, even if ever so briefly - Shock Horror! Even among friends and family nudity is one of the great Taboos.

And it's not about sex or even sexual innuendo, indeed, clothing is more about that as we discussed in a three part series back in late 2012. I doubt any would consider the great National Geographic documentaries of societies and cultures where nudity is normal as being even remotely sexual or 'pornographic' and we don't seem to have any problem with the nakedness of other primates or any other animal. .............. So why?

Apparently we evolved to be the 'Naked Ape' around 3 million years ago and with a few exceptions are the only mammals to do so. Studies on the DNA and evolution of lice have led scientist to conclude clothing only started around 170,000 thousand years ago, coinciding with one of the 'out of Africa' theories and an ice age. So, in the scheme of things, nudity is the norm and it seems to me that more and more would like to return to those days if the internet selfies, International and National Nude days, Naked bike rides, World Naked Gardening Day (2nd May), and many others etc. are anything to go by. Generally they give one an 'au naturel joie de vivre' that can't be matched any other way and helps one feel connected with nature in a way you just cannot do with clothes. It is unfortunate that learned social and cultural taboos become so ingrained and reinforced that we find it hard to break free of them.

Although, having said that, with modern day obesity being so prevalent we are grateful for clothes covering those with overly fatty folds.

But apart from that, embrace your freedom - such of it that is left to us - and enjoy nudity whenever you can.

PS: Our last photo shoot at our present abode. And yes, I was naked with Cami in the garden and pool when taking the pictures. I shall miss that freedom in our next residence (a small unit in a retirement village
