Hanna

Hi Coverdoll readers,

This is Hanna, also commonly known as Monkeypants. She is a 4Woods Neoj i.m with the gorgeous Haruhi head. She is my one and only, and is likely to remain that way. She loves to wear her traditional Japanese clothes as it reminds her of home. She's always up for a laugh and doesn't mind doing the odd photoshoot involving dressing up. She's also a very patient model.

We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day for this shoot. She'd been waiting a week, all dressed up and nowhere to go, while the rain poured down. We finally had a sunny day on the hottest day of the year so far. So, on went the makeup which was all we needed to get going.

Hanna's clothing and accessories.
Kimono and Tensha bead earrings by Japanya
Kanzashi by Kikuya Kanzashi
Obi is a vintage Japanese silk one from E-bay
Hair is the Warashinabu Maiko style as worn by Geisha. It took me three hours to do this and it's not as good as the Japanese stylist does it. It has to be done in four sections and tied using paper ties at each stage, building until all stages are tied at the back in the top knot.
Me and my kit
I use a Nikon D7100 and have two fixed focal length lenses. An AF-S Nikkor 85mm 1.4G and an AF-S Nikkor 35mm f1.8G. I think these two lenses cover most shots I want to get, and I think fixed focal length lenses are superior in quality to a zoom.
I also have two permanent lamps with stands, one in a softbox and one with umbrella. I usually try to use natural light.
The shots I show are always 'As shot' and I only use software to convert from RAW format to jpeg. Almost all shots in this shoot were using the 85mm.

That's all for now folks.

Note from the Editor: Each month we will feature a different

photographer's work. We invite doll owners and manufacturers alike to participate in this new monthly feature. Photo shoots must meet a minimum quality level. If you do not meet that level we are happy to work with you, critique your photos and help you to raise the bar on your photography. Good photo shoots can be had with low cost digital cameras. It is all in the technique.
