Mishka's Studio

Body:

Greetings Doll lovers. This month I am featuring Aimi, a DS160+ in her car. Yeah, I like filming girls and cars, and what's a better combination.

I used no special reflectors, just a somewhat cloudy day, and a higher F-stop.

Aimi is dressed in a nice outfit I bought her, and she loves sporting those 5" heels. I will say the DS skeleton is very strong in the ankle area, but she still had difficulty posing like that with those heels.

Pictures are captured as 14bit raw files, then processed with Camera Raw in photoshop. Adjustments such as levels, color tone, color cross-fading, contrast are made.

Sometimes, I use the Wacom Intuos tablet to do painting on the photos when being creative.

Sometimes opportunities arise and when a great picture is made, I will print it out on canvas, generally 36x24 and put it in my garage or house for display. I have these car shots all over, and when guests ask, I just say it's some woman I photographed, whom I am friends with.

Aimi was photographed with a Nikon D750, and a 28-75mm lens, with around  f11, and shutter speeds around 250th/sec. Since I do not use a tripod outside, I have to make sure the shutter priority is set, or I am just careful and use aperture priority.

Once I did a photoshoot with using 1/500 @f5 , which came out great, but I forgot to change the ISO from 2000 by mistake. Luckily there was minimal grain.

Above, I used a very wide aperture, but also max zoom to achieve a better bokeh effect. I often use photoshop to get a more pronouned effect, but I will settle on just a good DoF. On the deck, you can see Aimi enjoying the view. Every night, we have deer under the deck, which sleep there till sunrise. Quail and other small animals are requently seen. The house is at 2400feet or 800 meters above see level, and has many days of clear, but very hot sunny days. Winters see some snow, and generally melts quickly. Winters average 55-75F in the afternoons, but summers are usually 95F. Mild mediterranean climate, and you've probably seen the western oaks and rosemary bushes everywhere in my pics.

My driveway at the country cottage estate has a long slope, so I had to stand close to Aimi in case she started to fall. Luckily she held that pose for a hour.

On some of these outdoor photoshoots, I will take over 200 pics, and routinely shoot 1 pic per click. Each picture gets looked at for exposure and especially focus. Regarding focusing, I always use point/spot focus, and sometimes manual settings controlling f-stop and shutter. In the above picture, I would take 15-20 shots for each pose, and change the position of camera each time - just to get an ideal combination.

Next month I will go over some of the camera gear and camera lighting and give a little tutorial. Eventually, that will lead into photoshop processing.

Till Next time
