Our Monthly Featured Photographer for November 2017 is Dolllover84:
Golden Hour Gal
I had a lot of fun with this shoot. Golden hour is my favorite time of day for photography, so that is the essence that I tried to capture with this set. The model, Brianna, is a 140A from RLSD (WM design). I hope you enjoy!
All of the photos of Brianna were taken with a Sony a5100 and a Sony 35mm f1.8 prime lens. This was actually my last shoot with this camera as I've upgraded to a full frame mirrorless body, the Sony a7II. Some of the source images I used to create the backgrounds were taken with the a7ii paired with the new Sony 85mm f1.4 G Master lens, which I love! The bokeh is unreal! I couldn't use the 85mm setup with Brianna do to space constraints at my place, but I was still able to get some shallow depth of field shots with the 35mm. Lighting on Brianna was accomplished with a simple StudioPro softbox for key light and a tungsten bulb behind her for a hair light.
All of the images were edited in photoshop, since I don't have the ability to actually take Brianna on outdoor photoshoots. Each background image is a unique creation from several different source images, most of which I took myself and combined together. Color tones and shadows are the key to making this look convincing. Besides that, I did my usual post processing which includes adding "digital makeup" to her face and sometimes blending in the arm/leg seams. I also use a technique called "dodge and burn" to add some depth to an otherwise flat looking image.
Note from the Editor: Each month we will feature a different photographer's work. We invite doll owners and manufacturers alike to participate in this new monthly feature. Photo shoots must meet a minimum quality level. If you do not meet that level we are happy to work with you, critique your photos and help you to raise the bar on your photography. Good photo shoots can be had with low cost digital cameras. It is all in the technique.
