MONIGUE - A REALDOLL MOVIE

Imagine the surprise when a gigantic 200-pound, refrigerator-sized wooden crate arrived at a movie studio office on a Friday afternoon. Unable to fit it through the office door, the deliveryman was forced bring it around a side entrance and it had to be opened with a screwdriver. Lo and behold, lying naked inside the crate was a life-sized model of a woman made of silicone. The anatomically accurate silicone sex doll was made for a Realdoll movie named “Monique”.

First, a confession, I loved this movie. The acting is first rate, the photography is beautiful, and the movie had a classic look to it from start to finish.

The Europeans do indeed know how to make movies; this one is an excellent example of that. The move is colorful and eager to please; it has at times an upbeat attitude and a good message about people at the end.

Monique is the tale of a man who forms a relationship with an anatomically accurate silicone sex doll he orders over the Internet. We all know what that is – a “Realdoll”. Although I did laugh in a few places in the movie, “Monique” is a sexually charged movie that is also a cautionary tale for our high-tech times.

“Monique” is that rare movie that combines both a smart script with a classic genre film payoff at the end.

See it – it’s a lovely movie that’s a classic in it’s own way.
