December - and Lessons from Geese.

Body:

Hi Guys and Dolls.

This month a bit of reality, a bit of philosophy and a time of the season laugh  .......  First the reality.

The other month we had a luncheon party catering for 7. So we get all dressed up and not so much as a look or touch up from the guests if you please.

Actually two guests failed to show up, very rude with no forewarning, so there was lots of food to go around. Well, they missed out.

Nibbles of salted mixed nuts, corn chips and salsa dip for starters to go with the beer and cider (for the ladies).

Entré of Asian Salad with slices of Pastrami, together with some Herb and Garlic bread to go with the Chardonnay Viogniier.

Main Course was succulent Butter Chicken served on a bed of Saffron flavoured bismati rice to accompany a nice Rosé.

And Dessert was a Caramel Cake with vanilla custard and Ice Cream to blend nicely with the Moscato. OK, we own up, we bought the cake.

And so to the Philosophy:       Lessons from Geese.

Fact 1. As each goose flaps its wings it creates an updraft for the birds that follow. By flying in a 'V' formation the whole flock adds a 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.

Lesson 1. People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are travelling on the thrust of one another.

Fact 2. When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.

Lesson 2. If we have as much sense as a goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We should be willing to accept their help and also give our help to others.

Fact 3. When the lead goose tires it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies to the leading point.

Lesson 3. It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with the geese, people are interdependent on each other's skills, capabilities and unique arrangement of gifts, talents and resources.

Fact 4. The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

Lesson 4. We need to make sure our 'honking' is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, the production is greater. The power of encouragement is the quality of support we all need.

Fact 5. When a goose gets sick, wounded or injured, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or recovers. Then they launch out to join another formation or catch up with one.

Lesson 5. If we have as much sense as geese we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as sharing when we are strong.

So - who is as silly as a goose? - hopefully we all are.

Finally the topical joke:

A Woman goes into a tattoo parlour and tells the artist she wants a tattoo of a turkey on her right thigh just below her bikini line. She also wants him to put "Happy Thanksgiving" under the turkey.

So the guy does it and it looks really good.

The Woman then instructs him to put a Santa Clause up on her left thigh with "Merry Christmas" under it. That is done and looks good too.

As the Woman is getting dressed to leave, the tattoo artist says "If you don't mind, could you tell me why you had me put such tattoos on your inner thighs?"

The Woman replies "I am sick and tired of my husband complaining all the time that there is nothing good to eat between Thanksgiving and Christmas"?
