From Realdolls to Androids – an Interview with Joey at Abyss Creations

I called Joey at Abyss Creations and asked him about the latest generation of Realdolls and how much closer are they to becoming true Androids.
Joey says this about the latest Realdolls:

The new formula silicone we are using seems to be higher in strength when done softer - the new material is a great improvement over the old - so far we are very pleased.
The new Realdolls currently in production are very durable and functional, the entry holes allow for easy insertion now and expand easily for every doll owner.
The body's six and seven are the most durable because the hands and feet are molded into the bodies at the same time.
The hands on all Realdolls have received the following upgrades: First we changed to an aluminum wrist/hand linkage to replace the plastic hand plates. this allows us to use a standardized assembly, which is far more durable. This was in development for 6 months.
The second change to the hands is in the armature wire itself. We have just switched to a new alloy wire that will be more resistant to wire fatigue. There is also an added design feature in the new hand plates which will help keep the armature wire from bending in the same place every time. The current hands are the next best thing to the fully articulated version that is so cost prohibitive.
The feet on all dolls have been upgraded with a new, larger footplate, which is designed with the current skeleton in mind. (The new dolls can stand now) While it is still not advised to place the full weight of your doll on the feet for prolonged periods of time, the current plate will disperse the weight much more efficiently.
The Body 7 dolls are now truly seamless, as we have finally designed a way to eliminate the breast seam formerly required for the gel implants. We hope to make all body types seamless this year.
We now install cloth inserts in the mouth and elbow areas to further reduce tearing problems."
I will have to say, all the recent Realdoll owners seem to be very happy with their new Realdolls – especially the new body sevens!!
Realdolls are coming closer and closer to becoming the first true “Androids†ever produced – robots so realistic that they could fool a person into believing that they were real human beings. The list of options available for your “Android†will continue to grow in the future.
Heck – the day WILL come when you will go an airplane trip and the saying “coffee, tea or me†will be said from a Realdoll flight attendant!
