June - and a bit of Contemplation.

Body:

Dear Readers,

Our lovely Nony is feeling in a bit of a contemplative mood this month. She is wondering - well you can see that for yourself under her picture. Smile

(Apologies to our foreign readers who are not good with the  English language. Some of these little anecdotes are just 'playing' with English words).

If infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery?

If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would anyone know?

Why is the man who invests your money called a 'broker'?

Are people more violently opposed to fur rather than leather because it's much easier to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs?

How do you tell if you run out of invisible ink?

If a man stands in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to hear him....Is he still wrong?

If all the world is a stage, where is the audience sitting?

If most car accidents occur within five miles of home, why doesn't everyone just move 10 miles away?

If olive oil comes from olives, where does baby oil come from?

If women wear a pair of pants, a pair of glasses, and a pair of earrings, why don't they wear a pair of bras?

If you ate pasta and antipasta, would you still be hungry?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

If you would like to see more? http://www.commonplacebook.com/jokes/oneliners/points_to_ponde.shtm

But if you were not amused by the little pondering's or knew them already how about a few brain teasers?

1. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it and grey when you throw it away?

2. You see me where I never am and where I cannot be. And yet within that very place, my face you often see. What am I?

3. You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside. What did you eat?

4. What do we eat before it is born and after it is dead?

Answers next month if no one gives them in comments. And if those were too easy or you were not interested then just simply enjoy Nony's photo.

Comments

Well firstly Nony looks incredible :) I guess the weather is still warm enough for a dip in the pool down under ;).

Very interesting questions, some of which have puzzled people for a very long time.

Do you want us to post our answers here or send them to you via PM?

I think the last one is an egg, but I'm working on the others ;)

Hi Kharn,

Actually the photo was taken last year but not posted before. Now, Winter, it is around 12 degrees (53F) at night and 25 degrees (77F) during the day. The pool temp is around 18 to 20 degrees (66F) - too cold for our old bones - but we are recently trying to warm it up a bit with a bubble blanket which is supposed to raise the temp by at least 5 degrees so if it works then - maybe.

Yes, anyone can post the answers if they can work them out, but not if google used please.

With #4 you got it half right. The reference we used said "Chickens: the only animals you eat before they are born and after they are dead". We rephrased it to include (at least) one other. Lubov knows.

Ok I think number 3 is the sweetcorn ;) As one peels away the outer covering, then boils the corn and eats it, then throws away the centre cob :)

is that right? :D

Kharn is correct in his analysis. Congratulations. The answer to #3 is indeed an ear of Corn for the reasons he said.

Corn is originally from the America's - as was the potato, tomato and capsicum among other foods. It is a staple food, particularly of central America such as Mexico. It is force fed to ducks or geese to produce Fois Gras from their livers and cornmeal is now generally used to make millassou (before corn came from the America's millet was used).

Well done you guys.Wink But as far as the first one goes, I'm afraid I have no idea at all. However I do know what is black and white and read all over! But there again so does everyone else as well!Laughing

Thanks :)

I've been thinking about question one and my guess is red wine. It look black while in the bottle, when purred it is red, then the bottle can look gray when empty. But this might be wrong LOL

Black ? i did read "back" in the original post }:)
So it was a trap ! as if it isn't difficult enough :O ;)

thinking... black, red, gray ;)

Yes, We made a typographical error by mistake. It is black.

Please accept our apologies.

You are right. riddles are very difficult and I made it impossible by my mistake.

Maybe we should have a BBQ together, a few beers and hopefully laugh it off.

Sorry again. I am obviously not good at this kind of thing so will try & stick to just the light hearted commentary in future. It is hard to come up with new ideas and sometimes they do not always work.

Please do not be angry.

don't worry muzza ;) the smileys i use are more important than my approximative english to understand my real state of mind :)

and any native english speaker had understood it was "black" and not something "behind" :jawdrop:

cheers,

Jihan & Elle

Don't give it a second thought muzza, I have severe dyslexia, if I don't put my posts through a spell check it looks like a five year old has been let lose with a keyboard. Regardless of any typo, I still have no idea as to the answer!Laughing

Was the answer to 1 wine?

Sorry Kharn, it is not wine, not really black when you buy it, is it? and personally I do not throw it away, preferring to drink it.

When I told my girlfriend the riddle, with the first clue I gave, she got it in a couple of minutes. You have been given a second clue if you look for it. And here is a third - There are four elements of nature.

Coal :)

Kharn

Yes Kharn, well done.

Charcoal, Coke or Coal all fit the bill. Black when you buy it, Red when it is burning and grey when you throw away the ashes.

The Romans and old civilisations used a lot of it to make their bronze, iron and other metal tools, artefacts and weapons. We often use Coke or Charcoal in our BBQ's and of course 'Fire' is one of the four of natures elements.

All done now.

Coal...oh yes welldone Kharn ;)

I thought to petroleum (black when likid, red when gazoline, and grey when smoke) :D but not very accurate ;)

Nice thread, well done muzza, thanks.:) And well done Kharn for ending my torment! :D
