" Hobo With a Shotgun"

"As Reported by Dollyforme"

The stunningly yummy Mollie Dunsworth stars in Hobo With a Shotgun, the second feature film to be spun off a mock trailer from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse movie. Hobo With a Shotgun promises much with a cool title, and the casting of the excellent Rutger Hauer alongside the super hot Mollie who plays Abby – a hooker with a heart. This is Molly’s first feature film, but I’m sure it won’t be her last!

The ‘story’ has a nameless Hobo (the perfectly cast Rutger Hauer) riding into Hope Town, only to find that it has become a crime ridden hole, ruled over by crime boss ‘The Drake’ (Brian Downey) and his sons Slick and Ivan (Gregory Smith and Nick Bateman) and renamed Fuck Town. The Hobo witnesses a robbery while he’s in a pawn shop, picks up a shotgun and start dispensing his own brand of bloody justice, aiming to leave Fuck Town (nope, that’s not getting funnier) to start a new life and a business with Abby (Molly Dunsworth), a prostitute he saved from Slick.

Hauer is a good actor, a great one even, but as has been the problem for many years in his less illustrious than he deserves career, he is howver given a lot to do here. His speechs are enough to get his teeth into - either something about bears (really, don’t ask) or a speech to the babies, but for most of the movie he’s stuck delivering one liners like “You and me are goin’ on a car-ride to hell… and you’re riding shotgun!” and looking slightly pissed off about it. T o his credit, Hauer does a great performance, however, the same can’t really be said of the villains, who end up being too over the top to really be scary, but they are good for a couple of laughs.

The movie looks great and it embraces the grindhouse look, creating an authentic late 70?s feel (complete with ropey effects).
I saw this movie at a midnight screening, packed with exploitation fans, this film worked its magic on the crowd. As an homage to grindhouse films it’s a masterpiece of cinema. Hobo With a Shotgun along with Machette are grindhouse films as good as the original two – Planet Terror and Death Proof, actually better in some ways. Is a Grindhouse 3D far away? We’ll see.

Another great review my friend, and this movies seems to also have a good cast :)

Had to look up 'Grindhouse' and 'Exploitation Movie' on wiki. Suppose that makes us dinosaurs Embarassed

Anyway we really like Rutger Hauer and look forward to seeing Mollie in 'Hobo with a Shotgun' in due course.

Interestingly we have just viewed 'Machette' for the first time. Unlike 'The Killer inside Me' it is so over the top that it is easy to watch and enjoy as entertainment - funny that. And wow, that Michelle Rodriguez, even better than Jessica Alba.  We wonder if they will be included in the sequels.

Thanks for review.

Roger Ebert has ignored this movie.  Now I know what a grindhouse movie is, it's a movie that is beneath Ebert's notice.  Dollyforme, you are now my #1 movie reviewer, Ebert moving down to #2.

The Grindhouse films and their spin-offs are some of my favorite films of all time, though to be fair I've only seen Machete, but Hobo With a Shotgun is on the top of my 'to watch' list. This review makes me really excited to get my hands on this film. Which reminds me...I need to buy Machete, too.

Thanks for another great review, Dollyforme!

Rutger Hauer is one of Midiman's favorite actors. Great review adn definitely a must see for us.
