As any Mini Love Doll owner knows, great things come in small packages, but when it comes to clothing them or posing them in the real world their size can be challenging. For last month's CoverDoll photos you will see my doll, Miami, on a miniature couch I made, wearing some high heel boots that were home-made as well. Here is a good photo that shows both.

Finding sexy shoes for a foot this small (size 5 in toddler) is nearly impossible. So I decided to make my own high heel boots. I cut some thin steel plate for the sole and bent them into a curved shape, then welded some round rod onto the sole for the heel.

The blue color is from the bondo used to fill in the low areas and to give it shape. Bondo is used for filling dents on a car body prior to painting.

So then I strapped my doll's feet into the steel sole using wire and covered her feet with fibreglass cloth/resin.

This formed a hard shell which was finished off with the blue bondo, and black paint.

I found some great black imitation leather at a fabric store and used Super-glue to attach it to the shoe.

Now that my doll had some sexy boots to wear, she needed a good way to show them off, so I built what is called a fainting couch. Fainting couches were popular in the 19th century, and were particularly used by women. One theory for the predominance of fainting couches is that women actually were fainting, because their corsets were too tight, restricting blood flow. But I think they just look sexy. What a great piece of furniture to drape a lovely doll over, with so many different positions.

This was such a fun project to work on. Little did I know when I bought this doll that I'd spend most my time making things for her, but it's been so much fun creating things in a smaller scale so the world around her doesn't look so big. Here's a photo of the couch as it sets on top of a full size Love Seat so you can get an idea of scale.
