Meet Estelle

The Doll:

Estelle is a JY140cm with head#36

The Shoot:

This is a great Question! This particular shoot was at the Torrey Pines - The lodge.. Otherwise known for the PGA Golf course on the beach. Unfortunately it was pouring rain so we were not able to go out and get some pictures outside. However Hotel room is just fine, Nothing fancy- We like to be a natural real world situation. The art is finding the right angle - the right lighting. However Estelle is going all over the place - San Diego- huntington beach , Seattle, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Monterrey, Scottsdale. where it next adventure is for is her always interesting!

The Gear:

Galaxy 10 (thats it) Neewer NL480 Bi-color lighting panels with 2 flexlight pro Spots JM34 Photoshop using exposure gain and neutral filters.

Estelle , in my mind the most beautiful creature i have seen, so shooting her is super easy. her kind expression is very Mona Lisa. I love dark scenes , i wanted to simulate a cocktail reception and cigar room. The Hotel room had a great Leather chair and ancient curtains that made a good backdrop. But creating the mood lighting.. being able to control the light cast on the skin and hair.. then doing minor finish work in photoshop.

What this shoot shows - is that most smart phones (iphone/samsung/Pixel) are serious cameras that do amazing work. you dont need to buy thousand dollar DSLR for 70% of shooting a doll. Now i say that because no matter what , DSLR lens will provide a better aspect . Difference of seeing the world from the eyes of a mouse, vs eyes of an OWL. Large eyes capture far more light and wider aspect perspective. But the world has changed, the whole world now shoots with smart phones so that perspective is acceptable .

Filming is a art - you can have all the gear in the gear in the world and shoot vanillia photos. Yet a 400$ throwaway phone could capture a incredible shot- if you setup the shot- are creative in angle- to find that magic look, and bingo, you got it!!

Note from the Editor: Each month we will feature a different photographer's work. We invite doll owners and manufacturers alike to participate in this new monthly feature. Photo shoots must meet a minimum quality level. If you do not meet that level we are happy to work with you, critique your photos and help you to raise the bar on your photography. Good photo shoots can be had with low cost digital cameras. It is all in the technique.
