Meet Rachael

Premise:

An excited and happy Rachael finds herself waiting in a romantic getaway for an illicit love that will never show. A few lonely hours, a few glasses of wine, and her mood eventually turns somber. She begins to play "Loves Me, Loves Me Not" with the roses in the room. However, each rose, one after the other, ends the same, "Loves Me Not...". Emotion gets the best of her as she reflects on a life that might have been. And a life that is slipping away...

I was able to set Rachael and everything else up in my master bedroom for the duration of the shoot. It took ten days to get everything the way I wanted (moving furniture in and out, canopy fabric, candles...) and do three separate sessions with her. I slept in the guest room.

Equipment

I picked up a used Nikon D3100 with a kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Auto Focus) added a Neewer PRO i-TTL Speedflash (used as a fill) and two Neewar Bi-color dimmable softbox lights (set to the lower/warmer setting).

I found the entire process exhilarating and surprisingly emotional as we struggled with some posing and angles that just wouldn't work, but eventually found our way. In the end, with some romantic music, proper lighting and a patient, talented Rachael, we managed to capture a special mood. Definitely an enjoyable bonding experience for sure.

Note from the Editor: Each month we will feature a different photographer's work. We invite doll owners and manufacturers alike to participate in this new monthly feature. Photo shoots must meet a minimum quality level. If you do not meet that level we are happy to work with you, critique your photos and help you to raise the bar on your photography. Good photo shoots can be had with low cost digital cameras. It is all in the technique.
