Masai’s blog: May 2021 - Stock Portfolio Review

For many years I’ve been interested in Wall Street and took the investing plunge back in the days when Google went public for $100.00 a share and I bought 10 shares. I held those shares for a while and sold for a profit too soon and never got back in. Oh well, you have to take money off the table sometimes. About 8 or so Months ago when the Stock Market was crashing hard I sat down with Lorrie and we discussed a plan to take advantage of the carnage. The plan was to come in and pick up some 800-pound Gorilla companies cheap that took a haircut during the crash.

I wanted to re-structure my portfolio so Lorrie and I talked about asset allocation into which sectors, industries, large-mid or small cap companies I’ll invest in. I will remain a Value Investor like Warren Buffet and do my due diligence with intense research on the companies I’m going to buy stock in. I finally settled on 7 positions in stocks and one in cash, Jumia Technologies – (JMIA) and Nio Ltd. (NIO) being the latest two buys. NIO is a EV company based in China.

I bought 100 shares of JMIA at the time for $7.89 and within a couple of months it hit $23.00 a share and I was feeling good. Well after a while, because it missed its earnings estimate, investors sold off heavily and it came all the way back down to $8.00 a share. I didn’t panic because experience has taught me to be patient with a super potential stock. Jumia is the Amazon of Africa and it is off and running. I missed Amazon so I jumped on Jumia. Lorrie tried to tell me to pick up more shares during the correction and I didn’t listen to her. I didn’t panic sell but I didn’t buy more shares like an idiot of the highest order. There’s a WS saying, “In May Go Away”, where there’s usually a selloff in May but that didn’t happen for me. Watching Lorrie laugh at me, the stock came roaring back and it's trading between $27.00 to $37.00 and it hit $62.00. I am happy and mad at the same time. It’s too high for me to buy more shares now, I like finding gems under $10.00. Aaaahhhhhh.

Oh well, we live and learn and there will be other opportunities but maybe when our TPE Dolls give us good advice we should listen. I didn’t and left a ton of money on the table. We hope you enjoyed our investments update and look forward to seeing you with us again. Have a blessed day.
