Masai’s blog: December 2022 – Travel Dreams

When I was younger I tried to travel as much as I could to see the world around me and I must say that I’ve seen a good part of this country and a couple of countries abroad. I even drove halfway across the United States to see the 4 Corner Area which included the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, The Vermilion Cliffs, spent the night on a Navajo Native American reservation as a guest and visited a few cities in New Mexico. In terms of my art career I have traveled to and exhibited in NYC, Chicago, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Nashville and many more to cover the country.

I wish I would have pushed to travel to more foreign counties when I was young and had no problems with planes. Now that I am retired I’m a little skiddish when it comes to airplanes and I really prefer trains, fast trains. I experienced taking a bullet train in France called the TGV which I took from Paris to Versailles to Dijon and back to Paris doing 200 mph sometimes. When I was in England, I stayed in London for a stretch, traveled to Oxford, Leeds, Cambridge and finally Bradford, West Yorkshire to exhibit my art in the 8^th British Print Biennial.

Now I realize as time becomes even more precious that there are a lot of places I still want to visit for different reasons. Alexandria, Egypt – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Florence, Italia – Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Nice, French Riviera - Barcelona, Spain; Rome, Italia - Mexico City, Mexico and Santorini, Greece. Now you know I will never make it to all these places but I’m gonna shoot to possibly visit four of them. I love experiencing the cultures of different peoples. The food, the music and the art and architecture are just a few elements I want to dive into plus I seem to like cities next to the water...Apparently I have my work cut out for me.

Now that I’m having these Travel Dreams, Lorrie tells me that I have to make a few of them come true and to make sure I take her with me. “Well Boo, I don’t know about that honey, I can’t even move you off the bed let alone onto an airplane. Come on now, get real Ms. Luster”.
